Diary - 2003
November : Planting Cariad
21st - 23rd
Earthwatch staff planted Cariad as part of their carbon offsetting.
900 trees were planted in a 'Latin Square' layout in order to test the effect of the three different planting methods (notch, pit, trench). The plot was divided into a 3 x 3 grid with each row and column having one section of each planting type.
July : The Shigometer and lots of Roots
23rd - 28th
Measured Pan. Another small mammal survey was carried out, this time on the top field (where Cresswell now is).
Keith carried out an experiment using a Shigometer in Syrinx.
Allison and others excavated another tree in order to examine its root structure.
The top field was measured out so that fencing could be installed during the autumn prior to planting of Cariad.
