November : Baling water out of pits with teapots
The plot, later named TWZ i.e. The Twilight Zone because very few trees survived, contained saplings that were pit-planted. However, it rained so much that the holes filled and teapots were borrowed from Big Pit to bale out the water in order to plant the saplings. The northwest corner of the plot was treated with 'fairy dust', which was ground rock dust. The trees in this area seemed to have fared better than the rest, though it has never been proved that the rock dust contained any minerals particularly beneficial to tree growth.
